SmartDraw makes it easy to create plumbing drawings.
Start with a Plumbing Drawing Template
To start, select New Document on your Dashboard, then choose the Engineering category and find the Plumbing Design template.
Setting and Changing the Scale
Use Units & Scale under Document Setup in the SmartPanel to the left of your main drawing areas to define the scale you want to use. You can set and change this scale at any time. SmartDraw has a set of built-in standard engineering, architectural, and metric scales, and you can even set your own custom scale as needed.
Import an Existing Plan
Already have a floor plan or existing blueprint? You can import a PDF or image into SmartDraw and scale it. Click Insert and choose PDF to bring in an existing plan as your foundation. You’ll be able to scale it and layer your plumbing drawing on top.

Add Pipes
Draw your pipes using lines or the pipe symbols found in the Plumbing library.
The symbols in the Plumbing library are pre-colored to represent hot and cold water. You can drag and drop them to the drawing area and then use your cursor to resize them and drag to connect them to each other.
You can also draw pipes just using lines and coloring them.
Choose Straight Line from the Line drop-down in the Tools section of the SmartPanel and drag your cursor to draw a line.
Recolor the line using the Line Style menu.
Add Plumbing Symbols
Drag and drop plumbing symbols from Plumbing library docked in the SmartPanel left of your drawing area.
Working with Layers
Layers let you separate parts of your plan so you can work on them independently from each other. For example, separating your plumbing pipes from the rest of your floor plan will let you manage your plumbing system without interfering with other symbols on your drawing area.
Add a layer to your visual by choosing New Layer from the Layers menu at the bottom of your workspace. Alternatively, you can also access layers from the Page tab.
Name the new layer in the dialog that pops up.
Once created, you can manage your layers using Manage Layers from the Layers control at the bottom of the page or the Page tab.
If you need to rename a layer, click on Edit Layer.
If you need to delete a layer, select Remove Layer.
To move a layer, choose Move Layer Up or Move Layer Down.
Export & Share
Export your drawing as PDF or PNG using the Export menu on the Home tab.
Or you can share your plumbing drawing using a link with clients, contractors, and engineers online. Click the Share button in the upper right corner of the app to generate a share link using the Copy Link option.
