The Grow Properties Dialog allows you to change the sizing behavior of a shape from the Design tab.
There are four choices of sizing behavior:
Proportionally - objects have only four grow handles (one at each corner) and maintain their proportions when re-sized.
Horizontally Only - objects have only two grow handles and can be re-sized only in the horizontal direction.
Vertically Only - objects have only two grow handles and can be re-sized only in the vertical direction. This is good for objects that represent vertical lines.
No restrictions allow objects to grow in all directions without maintaining proportions. These objects have the usual 8 grow handles.
Independently Adjust Sides of Polygon Shapes
There's a special property that only applies to custom polygon shapes. When you create a custom shape using SmartDraw's polygon line tool you can adjust the shape by just extending one side.
To remove that ability, uncheck this option in the Grow Properties dialog box.
Allow a Shape to Behave Like a Container
You can make a shape behave like a container by checking the "Behave as shape container" box in the Grow Properties dialog under the Design tab.
A shape container is a special kind of shape that contains other shapes. The size of the shape container is automatically determined by the size and number of the shapes contained inside. When you move a shape container, all shapes contained with it also move automatically, like they're a single unit.
A shape container can also contain other shape containers.
This is useful for creating complex diagrams like AWS architecture.
