When you create a diagram with Intelligent Formatting and automatic connectors in SmartDraw, there is little need to adjust your line spacing and alignment because we do it for you. However, if you want a more customized look, we give you the flexibility to make manual adjustments to your arrangement as needed.
There are three ways to make adjustments: black squares, green circles, and green arrows.
Black Squares
The black squares that appear on a selected connector line let you increase or decrease the spacing of the entire arrangement either vertically or horizontally.
The two outermost black squares at the top of the line let you change the horizontal spacing. You can drag them left or right.
The middle black square on the top line lets you change the vertical space between the shape above and the line.
The black squares that appear where the shapes connect to the line let you adjust the spacing vertically between the line and the shapes that appear below it.
Adjust Spacing Universally for Your Entire Diagam
You can adjust vertical and horizontal spacing of all the connectors in your diagram by increasing or decreasing the numbers in the Vertical and Horizontal Spacing fields found in the SmartPanel in the Spacing palette.
Green Circles
The green circles let you adjust the horizontal spacing of a connector line unevenly. Using the black squares adjusts the horizontal spacing so the objects remain evenly spaced and equidistant.
The green circles on the line let you create uneven spacing.
Green Arrows
When you select a shape, you'll see green arrow icons in the upper left corner. One will have an up and down arrow and the other left and right arrow. Click on either icon and without letting go of your mouse drag them up or down or left or right to adjust the spacing of that particular branch relative to the other branches either above or to the side of the selected shape.
Green up and down arrow will let you shift the entire branch vertically. All shapes will move, not just the selected one.
Green left and right arrow will let you create uneven spacing on your branch, much like the green circles on the line.
