There are a few different types of electrical diagrams SmartDraw has templates for. Navigate to the Engineering category under New Document on the dashboard and choose the right one of your project. You can choose to make a wiring diagram, an electrical circuit diagram, a block diagram, HVAC diagram, and more.
Start drawing a wire using the Line tool at the top of the SmartPanel. By default, you'll draw a segmented line with an arrow at one end.
Adding Symbols
Add symbols to your diagram by dragging and dropping from the library docked to your work area. Electrical symbols are designed to attach automatically to lines and match the orientation of your wire. As you drag and drop a symbol to the wire, you'll see an anchor symbol appear when the symbol is ready to be attached to the line.
To detach a symbol from your wire, hold down the Alt key as you drag it away from the line.
