Clicking on Maps from the Popular category will open the template browser to the Maps & Geography section where you can choose a template that closest matches your needs.
You can choose from World Maps, USA Regional or State County Maps, Maps for Asia, Latin America, Europe, Australia, and more.
Every map is a collection of specialized symbols that represent countries, states, counties, and other regions. They behave like regular SmartDraw shapes. You can use the commands on the Home tab to change Fill color, change their border color or thickness. You can even resize them if necessary.
Changing The Look of Selected Regions
Once you have a map open, you can change the look of designated regions, countries and states. Select a shape, and in the Home tab click on Fill and choose a different color, gradient or texture.
To change the border of a region, select it and go to the Line menu and choose a different thickness and color.
Resize Regions
You can resize any individual region like a regular SmartDraw shape. When selected, you'll see black adjustment handles around the shape. Click on one and drag it to resize your shape.
Edit Text on Map
On maps, text is separate objects not attached to shaped. You can move them and edit them independent of state and country shapes.
Click on the text object you want to change. You'll see black selection handles around it. Now, on the Home tab, you can select a different font, font size, font styling or change the font color.
To move the text, drag it with your mouse or use the arrow keys on your keyboard.
Adding More Text
You can add more text to your map by clicking Text from the Text section of the SmartPanel, then clicking into the white space of your Work Area and typing your text. Click elsewhere in your Work Area to save typed text, then drag and drop the text box to the desired location in your map.
Add Pins and Other Symbols
Every map template opens with a library of pins and flags you can drag and drop to your diagram. You can find these in the Map SmartPanel to the left of your drawing area.
Click on the symbol you want and drag-and-drop it to your drawing area. Or click once to stamp it in place.
Finding Additional Symbols.
You can find additional symbols by selecting More Symbols from the More drop down menu, then searching by keyword or browsing through available libraries.
To add a library to your SmartPanel, click on Add Library and the selected library of symbols will be made available to drag-and-drop to your map. You can add as many libraries to your file as you want.
